about

"Les Incidents du Temple" is the newest release from the ever prolific The Dead Mauriacs.

The tracks in this collection show Olivier Prieur in total control of his sound making process. Electronics, acoustic instruments, field recordings (or is that found sound?), digital processing, all blended together with the precision of a purveyor of contemporary concréte. A release steeped in both silence and density, often at the same time.

More than anything this work is a story, both sonically and within Olivier's and the listeners imagination.

"In the temple garden, the perspectives are changing, revealed by paper windows, hidden by panels, which, when sliding, create new views, cut out new spaces for the eye of the motionless walker. When we linger, the eyes perceive many details which can pass as insignificant. We follow the route left by the luminous drool of the nocturnal slugs and join the footsteps of two German tourists. The regular displacement of the panels, according to an apparently random plan, constrains the points of view.

The focal lengths adapt. One of the tourists seems blurry, intangible; his size as we look at it varies. We then approach one of the curiosities listed: one of these tourists is dead, the other alive. However, they do not seem to notice and discuss together. During the ceremonies that punctuate the life of the temple, they are present, seated, always together but in different places each time. It has been reported several times that a strange scent comes from their side, but it does not seem to emanate from either. Of course many tourists do not notice them and do not even get excited when the footsteps of one do not impress the snow just fallen."
